Captain Luis B. Sanchez was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is a 2008 graduate of The University of New Mexico, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology.

CPT Sanchez attended and graduated from the Basic Officer Leaders Course II, Fort Benning, GA (2009), Infantry Basic Officer Leaders Course, Fort Benning, GA (2009), and the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course, Fort Benning, GA (2013).  He is also a graduate of the Air Assault School (2006), Army Mountain Warfare School (2008), Ranger School (2010), Airborne School (2010), Infantry Mortar Leaders Course (2010), Combatives Level I and II (2009, 2013), Observer/Coach/Trainer Academy (2014), Pathfinder School (2014), and, most recently, from the Foundation Instructor Facilitator Course (2017).

He has served in the following assignments: Platoon Leader, B Company, 2-35 IN (2010); Mortar Platoon Leader, Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), 2-35 IN (2010-2012); and Battalion Assistant S-1, HHC, 2-35 IN (2012-2013), Schofield Barracks, HI; Senior Tactical Analysis Feedback Facility Officer in Charge, Task Force 1, Operations Group (2013-2014); and Rifle Platoon Observer/Coach/Trainer, Task Force 1, Operations Group (2014-2015), Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Polk, LA; Brigade Assistant Operations Officer, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division (2015-2016); Commander, B Company, 4-6 IN, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division (2016); and the Chief of Operations, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division (2016-2017), Fort Bliss, TX.  His most recent assignment is Assistant Professor of Military Science for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Army ROTC 49er Battalion.

CPT Sanchez’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), the Army Achievement Medal, the Meritorious Unit Citation, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 Campaign Stars), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon (2nd Award), the NATO Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Basic Parachutist Badge, the Pathfinder Badge, and the Ranger Tab.

CPT Sanchez is married to the former Mika Gamboa of Roswell, New Mexico, and the couple live in Davidson, North Carolina, with their son Collin and their dog Bentley.
