SFC Ragland enlisted in the United States Army in March of 2006.  He attended Basic Combat Training and Advance individual training (AIT) for the MOS 13B (Cannon Crewmember) in Fort Sill, OK.  Upon completion of AIT, SFC Ragland attended Airborne School at Fort Benning, GA, with a follow on assignment to the 173rd  Airborne Brigade, Alpha Battery, 4th Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, in Bamberg, Germany.  During his time from September 2006 to September 2009 in 4th Battalion, 319th he progressed through the enlisted ranks from Private to Sergeant serving as an Assistant Gunner, Ammunition Team Chief, and Gunner on a 105mm, M119A2 Howitzer.  During his tour in the 173rd, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of OEF VIII, providing direct and indirect artillery support,  from May 2007 to August 2008.

SFC Ragland was then assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, in Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Bragg, NC.  Arriving to the unit in September  of 2009, he was selected to serve as a Howitzer Section Chief, where he served for three years.  He was then selected to serve as a Gunnery Sergeant for 2nd Platoon where he served for two years before moving up to the Platoon Sergeant position where he spent almost three years.

 SFC Ragland’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (4th award), the Meritorious Unit Citation Award, the Army Good Conduct Medal (3rd award), the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal (1 combat star), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3rd award),  the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd award), the NATO Medal, the Combat Action Badge, and the Senior Parachutists Badge.

SFC Ragland’s military schools include the Master Fitness Trainer Course (MFT), Sling Load Inspection Certification Course (SLICC), Sexual Harassment/Assault Response Program course (SHARP) Field Artillery Master Gunner’s Course, Senior Leaders Course, Unit Prevention Leader Course (UPL), HAZMAT Course, Field Artillery Weapons Maintenance Course (U6), Combatives level 1, Combat Lifesaver Course, Jumpmaster Course, and Airborne School.

SFC Ragland has been happily married to Audrianna Ragland and has two children: Cannon and Abram, and are expecting their third in September.  He is looking forward to the opportunity to serve in the 49er Battalion, and be a part of developing and training our Army’s future leaders.
