MSG Copeland enlisted in the United States Army in March of 1999. He attended Basic Combat Training in Fort Sill, OK.  After graduating Basic Combat Training he was assigned to C 1-56, Fort Bliss, TX for Advance Individual Training (AIT).  Upon completion of AIT, MSG Copeland attended Airborne School at Fort Benning, GA, with a follow on assignment to the 3rd Battalion (Airborne), 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment at Fort Bragg, NC.  During his time in 3rd of the 4th he progressed through the enlisted ranks from Private to Staff Sergeant serving as a Team chief, Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant, while completing two combat tours in support of OIF I and OIF VI.  Following his assignment with 3-4, MSG Copeland was selected to serve as a Drill Sergeant and Drill Sergeant Leader at Fort Jackson, SC.   

MSG Copeland was then assigned to 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, KY where he served as Deputy Team Chief on the brigade’s first Security Force Assistant Team, deploying to Afghanistan in support of OEF X.  Upon his return, MSG Copeland was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment where he served as a Platoon Sergeant for Bravo Battery.  MSG was then assigned to 3-4 ADA where he served as a First Sergeant for Headquarters and Headquarters Battery and Echo Battery.

MSG Copeland’s awards include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal (2 bronze oak leaf cluster), the Army Commendation Medal (3 bronze oak leaf cluster), the Army Achievement Medal (1 silver oak leaf cluster, 1 bronze oak leaf cluster), the Presidential Unit Citation Award, the Army Good Conduct Medal (5th award), National Defense Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal (4 combat stars), the Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 combat stars), the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon (4th award), Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, the Combat Action Badge, the Pathfinder Badge, the Master Parachutists Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.

MSG Copeland’s military schools include Pathfinder School, Avenger Master Gunner School, Senior Leaders Course, United States Army Drill Sergeant School, Combatives level 1 and 2, Total Army Instructor Course, Combat Lifesaver Course, Jumpmaster Course, Air Assault Course, Equal Opportunity Advisor Course, and Airborne School.

MSG Copeland has been happily married to Shareese Copeland since 2004 and they have four children: Khari, Cameron, Sherry and Kynnedy.
